Abert's Towhees
On Tuesday, I decided to flood the pomegranate tree to see if I could revive it. I thought that root damage from a construction project had sadly done it in, but it appears to have some faint signs of life. I accidentally turned the water on too high and soon had a small pool around the tree. Before I could turn it down, two pairs of Abert's Towhees (Pipilo aberti) came flying in to take a bath. Abert's Towhees are one of three brown towhees (California, Canyon and Abert's). Males and females have the same colouring.

Nice to see your Albert Towhees. We don't have them up here on the Olympic Peninsula. We do have the Spotted Towhee, which has fantastic red coloring and deep red eyes.
When we get a rain here and it puddles up in the gravel driveway, the juncos and finches make a quick bath of it!
Looked at photos and oh! the Spotted Towhee is beautiful!
