We have California quail here in Washington. They come and eat at our feeder. They look like these, but still there seems to be some difference. They are such beautiful birds, and their families are sweet and adorable.
endment - Sounds like you miss the west at least a little bit (just as I miss the northeast woods and lakes). I love the Gambel's Quail and get such a pleasure in watching them march through the yard twice a day. The rain lasted most of the day and gave us glimpses of new snow on the mountains - wonderful!
RD - I can't wait for the little ones to hatch. They are such tiny little balls of fluff rolling behind their parents - barely visible at first on the desert floor. The rain was great. I'd taken the first two photos early in the morning as two quail raced through the yard. Then I saw this couple all fluffed up and hunched up in the afternoon rainstorm - one on the fence and one on the ground. They didn't budge for half an hour.
jllove - I hope you get your rain. We need much more of it. The drought affects the vegetation, which in turn affects the wildlife. Wildfires can be terrible tragedies.
jean - These Gambel's quail are lovely to watch. I look forward to the time when their babies will hatch. They forage in large families, with the father acting as lookout.
Cynthia - I don't know California quail, but I've seen photos. They're quite beautiful. I like the Gambel's quail. They take good care of their families.

Well, I am glad for you that you have had rain... Guess it has been needed.
How I wish I could see the quail in real life!

Beautiful shots!
We had rain in OK too. Desparately needed. Hope will reduce wildfire potential. The land will revive but the homes must be rebuilt.
I like much all these photographs of birds! The animals contrary to human, are always beautiful. One is never disappointed with them.
J'aime beaucoup toutes ces photos d'oiseaux !
Les animaux contrairement aux humains , sont toujours beaux .
On n'est jamais déçu avec eux .
We see the California Quail all over the city here... cute, fat, and dumb. LOL
