Monday postscript - Woodpecker, part 2

Took a break from my computer work this morning. Spotted a Gila Woodpecker on the mesquite.

Watched it climb,

settle,

and then fly. These birds are fast!

Until I cropped the flight photo, I had no idea what an amazing wingspan woodpeckers have, nor what the pattern is on their open wings.

Merci pour toutes ces belles photos d'oiseaux !
Nous nourrissons les oiseaux qui vivent autour de la maison , ils sont très nombreux , une dizaine d'espèces différentes .

rd - The patterns are magnificent aren't they? I'm intrigued with how the folded barred pattern develops as the wings spread out for flying.

jllove - Thank you! I always appreciate your comments.

jean - Il ya longtemps que j'ai essayé d'écrire ou parler francais. J'ai oublié presque tous. How wonderful that you have so many bird species around your home. I saw a photo of the beautiful countryside in which you live in your blog post: samedi, mars 04, 2006. I always enjoy the expressiveness of your photos. Merci beaucoup! J'espere que vous visiterez cet blog souvent.

cynthia - I appreciate your kind words. I'm enjoying the learning process. The beauty of digital is that you don't have to worry about the hundreds of photos you're going to throw away ;-)

My husband says the same thing... he deletes a lot of pictures to get that one good pic. ;-)
