Proud hawk

Yesterday I tried again to get a photo of the Gila woodpecker that keeps trying to drill holes in my eaves. He was right outside my study window, but flew off before I could grab the camera. Since I could hear him round the corner, I went outside to see if I could sneak up on him (that's never been successful before, but I keep trying).

I looked up to see a magnificent sight: one of the red-tailed hawks on a nearby power pole, holding its prey. Luckily I had camera in hand and although it was pretty far away, I managed to get some shots of it.






There's such power and beauty in these birds. Seeing them circling overhead in the clear blue sky always takes my breath away.
