chiefbiscuit, cynthia, rd - I've walked the trail several times, but only just noticed this little grouping on Sunday. I assume that the palo verde tree to the left was the nurse tree for the young saguaro. No idea how the older saguaro got like that - I hope to learn more about it.

I remember the first time I saw
saguaro cacti. It was in Scottsdale, Arizona and they lined the median of the road like proud sentry soldiers. Coming from the southeast, I was captivated by the different forms of vegetation in that part of the country. And the red mountains. Like another world all together I felt as if I had lived there in another lifetime.

mary, endment, sonia - Thanks. This was fun to photograph.

chancy - It is a different world. These amazing giants of the desert, surviving for nearly two hundred years in some cases. The red mountains were probably north in the red rock country near Sedona; it's pretty spectacular.
