I've never seen the cottontails here drinking, but I guess in your desert environment it's much harder for them to get needed moisture from wild plants?
To all - This was a first for me, too, a real surprise! The bunny came out from under the shade of the bird bath and looked at the finches dipping in for water. Then I saw it go up on its hind legs a couple of times to look, and then - bingo - it was drinking! Grabbed the pocket camera and crept out the back door - distant shot, but I didn't want to disturb it. I'm curious to see if s/he comes back.
I retired from the University of Arizona, where I coordinated distance learning. New enthusiasms include learning about digital photography and photoprocessing, archaeology, theatre, and observing the natural world around me.

What a great and surprising moment. Have you seen a bunny drink before? I never have.
