Photoprocessing exercise - House Finch

Female House Finch
Canon Rebel XT, 300 mm., F/5.6, 1/1000, ISO 200

Digital Photography 101 - my on-going love/hate relationship with my DSLR and photoprocessing software.
The above photo was processed with PaintShop Pro X. There were several branches in the photo that were distracting and messed up the composition. I've attempted to remove them using the Clone Tool. I found it difficult to tone the shadows in the background, so I removed most of them. I also played with the colour balance. I've recently purchased Photoshop and plan to pursue a rigorous program to acquire the skills I need to process and organize my photos. Hopefully, I'll develop the skill to successfully remove extraneous background artifacts with greater ease.

That's really a beautiful photograph of the house finch. That tail is just fantastic.

I have Photoshop 7 and I bought training materials from totaltraining. They have unbelievably comprehensive video trainings. When I worked at the university I often had to give basic Photoshop lessons to the students who were producing the campus newspapers and poetry journals.

If you have questions, and I can be of any help, please drop me an email. I've been giving some long-distance Photoshop pointers to friends, and it works out pretty well.

OW - Definitely want to make it easier and also have more control. I wimped out on some of it.

endment - I bought Photoshop CS2. I haven't dared open the box yet. I checked out the videos that rd recommends (below) - they seem excellent.

jean, cynthia - Merci beaucoup!

rd - Thanks for the very, very generous offer of help. I'll definitely take you up on it. R. and I looked at the totaltraining web site and will probably purchase a couple of their videos when I get started with this project. We appreciate the recommendation.
