Male Broad-tailed Hummingbird
These photos were taken at Tohono Chul Park, Tucson in March. The male Broad-tailed Hummingbird had just landed on a branch high above me.
Just after I took the first shot, he turned toward me and I managed one more shot before he flew off. It wasn't until I processed the photo that I saw that the camera had captured just a glimpse of its beautiful red gorget.

You make photographing birds look so easy, Pam. First, I've got to learn to see them. :)
Absolutely beautiful. I adore hummingbirds. They're such lovely little creatures.
One was trapped in my friend's barn once, and it was panicking and hitting the barn rafters in an attempt to escape. When I climbed a ladder and tried to guide the little guy out with one of my hands, it actually landed on my hand. I cupped my other hand over it and carried it outside, and when I lifted the hand I was holding over it, it just perched there, poised on my hand, then hovered in mid-air a few inches over my hand before flitting away. It was one of the most magical moments of my life.
That was a ruby throated hummingbird, and it was the coolest thing to be able to actually touch and see up close.
My only regret is not taking pictures that day. You've certainly posted some beautiful ones here. Good work with that camera!
