I'm always amazed at how much one can see from a plane if there are no clouds in the way. I remember flying over Russia at night a few years ago and seeing all the lights from the villages and towns, and wondering who lived down there. Another memorable trip was flying from Frankfurt, Germany, to Basel in Switzerland. As it was only a very small plane we were not very high up and we followed the river Rhine all the way. We could see all the barges on the river and people in the streets of the very quaint villages. The tragedy was that my camera was in my bag in the plane's hold so I wasn't able to take any photos.
Some years ago we flew from Minneapolis to Phoenix over large area of land that looked like it was covered in gigantic pancakes. The crew didn't know what it was but we've since discovered that it was the circular irrigation and the damp ground froze in circles.
I retired from the University of Arizona, where I coordinated distance learning. New enthusiasms include learning about digital photography and photoprocessing, archaeology, theatre, and observing the natural world around me.

wow, great photos through the plane window! The Grand Canyon is excellent. What a cool way to document your flight.
