The Cooper's Hawk flew to the patio wall and waited.
Spotting prospective prey and preparing for takeoff:
It took off in a flash. My next photo was of a blank wall. He disappeared from my view, so I don't know if his hunt was successful.

I am in awe of this fantastic sequence of photos - Bravo
Cooper's Hawks are so hard to capture in flight. They move very quickly, and often, when I do have them in the viewfinder, they show up as a blur. This is such a beautiful sequence of photos, Pam.
That's a different bird from yesterday's.
Endment - I was in awe of the bird. What beauty! What power!
robin andrea - I think the only way to capture flight is with video - they move so quickly. But I'm sticking to stills; they're complicated enough :)
anonymous - Nope. Same bird. It flew off the phone line and, to my great delight, alit on the wall about 10 feet away. Interesting how change of light and background can change the appearance of an object. I also zoomed out, hoping to capture the hawk when it took off, but - as I said - it was too quick for me.
Pam- I ADORE your pictures of the Coopers hawk. I am made about birds of prey. You captured him beautifully! Absolutely beautiful..
hugs

Great series of pics - thanks. It's nice to get good looks at these birds that are so often just zooooming by!
What stunning photos these are. Well done and thank you, Pam.
